AUTISM AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
Assignment: As Designers we should be globally competent. For this project choose a subject that needs public awareness, then design a campaign to create social awareness about the subject. Create one poster (any size bigger than 12x18), as well as, 3 additional designed pieces of your choice such as a mailer, bag, button, t-shirt, motion piece, brochure, sticker, etc. You may use any material, color, image, or typeface.
My Project: My global awareness campaign aims to bring awareness to autism. The main visual theme of my project is a patchwork quilt. I chose this because I wanted to show that there are multiple attributes and abilities that make-up a person with autism, just like there are multiple patches that are needed to make a quilt. That being said, the main goal of the campaign is to try and get people to understand that autism does not define who a person is or what they are capable of, it is just one part of them. Going into this project I felt that many people just assume that people with autism are not capable of some of the same things as those of us with out the disorder. While this is true in some cases, it is not true in all cases since autism is a spectrum disorder. This is why I chose to incorporate "can" statements throughout my campaign (on the poster and mailer) to show that those with autism are capable of many of the same things as us.
